Let's Go Green!

I am sure that most of us are familiar with this card or ticket. Yes, it's the Projek Lebuhraya Utara-Selatan Berhad (PLUS) highway ticket. I sent my sister to work this afternoon and we used the PLUS highway to Subang. Since we were out of SmartTAG credit, we went for cash.

*Side note: I think it is convenient for people who live in KL to own a SmartTAG. Especially people who need to go thru Sungai Besi and LDP every single day. Besides, tolls are everywhere in KL. And so is heavy traffic!*

Okay, let me just explain the process a little bit. When entering the highway, at the toll gate, we will be given this ticket and we will have to hand it over to the toll gate attendant when exiting. This ticket holds the information like where we entered the highway from as well as the time. So, at the exit, the attendant will scan the ticket and collect the charge. The charge is different according to the distant from where we entered to where we arrived. So, different exits, different charges.

While driving back home from Subang, I wondered to myself. Is it possible for them to use re-usable plastic cards to replace this paper-made tickets? Maybe plastic tickets like the LRT tickets. I mean, after all, we're campaigning to save the world, right? Maybe using plastic cards will reduce the usage of paper a little bit, if not much.

SmartTAG

This is just my two cents and I'm just being optimistic to hope that they do recycle all those used cards. Just imagine how many cars are using the highway everyday. Though we have Touch N' Go and SmartTAG, there are still a lot of highway users who prefer cash.

p/s: ♫♪ Life is a highway, I wanna ride it all night long. ♫♪

I tot the same thing not long time ago. But I might think that's not such a good idea as they will take this as an excuse to raise the toll fee. haih.
