Fever Attack

Not Bieber Fever. At least, not yet. :P

2011 is here. So, here we go.

I've been attacked by a very high fever a couple of days ago. I think it started on the 28th. It wasn't that bad, at first, that I thought I could get over it over night. Unfortunately, the next day, it got worst. So, my parents took me to the clinic nearby. It wasn't our regular clinic. I mean, if any of us fall sick, we would visit another clinic in Taman Ehsan, Kepong. However, every Thursday night there is a pasar malam (night market) along the street in front of the clinic. And usually the clinic will call it a day early and the street will be cramped with people as early as 5:00PM.

The first clinic, Klinik Reddy in Jalan Ipoh. I've been to the clinic a couple of times within a few years. Amazingly, they are still using the manual record-keeping system; with the cards and slips and everything. Maybe it's too complicated to put in a database or something. So, the receptionist took some time to look for my card. They found my sisters' cards, but not mine. Then another lady came out, I think she's an assistant or something, helped the receptionist to find my card. They asked when was the last time I came to the clinic. I said, recently; maybe a few months back. Then the kept asking the same question over and over again. It was a good thing that both ladies were friendly enough to keep us cool. After 5 minutes, tadaaaaa! They found my card. And then there was a discussion about whether or not I'm still covered under panel. You know what, it doesn't matter. I can't stand the heat anymore and if you want us to pay for the bill, we will. Okay.

I was the only patient there; it was a relief to know that I didn't have to wait long. A few moments later, I went inside to meet the doctor with my mom. The doctor lose my faith in her the second I laid my eyes on her. I think she's in her late 50's. But, I thought to myself, maybe she still got it. Looks can be deceiving, right? (Though I know that that expression is usually used in opposite situations) I sat on the chair next to her desk and she asked me what's wrong and I described what I was having. She took her stethoscope and pressed it on my back, listened to my heartbeat for a few seconds. And then she asked a couple more questions, I answered while she dribbled on my card and I'm done! Less than 2 minutes, I tell you!

We waited outside. In my head, I thought that the doctor herself looked like she needed a trip to the hospital. I can barely understand what she was saying. Now, I'm afraid if I have heard her wrong and could that be the cause of the meds not working? Gasp. But, naaah. I went to the counter when my name was called. There were pills for fever, sore-throat, vitamin C, and a bottle of cough syrup. Well, that should do it.

We left, got in the car, and my father drove off. I was taking a look at the meds when I noticed the doctor prescribed me paracetamol! Don't you think I could've bought a whole bunch of the same stuff from 7-Eleven? So, I started looking through the plastic bag - Vitamin C; tasted like the 21st. Century vitamin series, the sore-throat pills; tasted like Cortal. And the cough syrup, you guys still remember, when we were kids years ago, what clinics used to gave us for coughing, right? The black syrup in a plastic bottle which looks like this:

Yeah. That clinic still has it.

Though I know the pills won't make any difference, I swallowed them down after dinner, finger crossed. Just like I've expected, the fever got worse when I woke up the next morning. So, I insisted on going to the second clinic; our regular clinic - Klinik Medical Hilmi or maybe Klinik Medic Al-Hilmi, based on the way they wrote it on the label. As advised, I took the medication after dinner and went to sleep half-an-hour later. Then slowly, my temperature started to decrease from the initial reading of 38.7 degrees Celcius! Now, I'm feeling so much better compared to the last two days which I spent most of the hours laying in bed.

On the other hand, I think I know what has induced the fever. Yesterday, I noticed that the gum around my third molar (the one they called the 'wisdom tooth') is swollen, revealing the tooth underneath. They said, sometimes, you may catch a fever when this particular tooth finally decided to grow in. Phew!

Well, I'm feeling better today. Just a little bit dizzy every now and then; which made me incapable of standing up for too long. So, I'll just continue taking the antibiotic and hope to fully recovered from the fever soon. And thank you, friends, for the kind wishes on my Facebook wall. You guys are the best!

p/s: ♫♪ Never know how much I love you, never know how much I care. When you put your arms around me, I get a fever that's so hard to bear. You give me fever! ♫♪
